MOURINA - Script

Written and performed by Rute Ellis & Onhay on the spoken-word artist Joelle Taylor's Workshop

Mourina was born 12 years ago in Chile. She has 5 older sisters and 3 older brothers. All around her is about growing up and becoming a proper woman and a proper wife.

Spending all her days helping out with the household and having dinner ready when their brothers arrive from school.

One day in the neighbourhood arrived the news that it was going to take place some riot about the abort right.

She had never heard that words before, but throw them she discovered there were other possibilities of living for all the women that were suffering among their patriarchal society.

Mourina saw herself free to choose her future for the first time.

When the time arrived, she joined the riot and what she saw was hate instead of freedom and happiness. All the women were screaming madly and an army was just standing there in silence, setting the control of authority that once again won, dictating women's lives.

She took all the hate, walking through the riot, not standing that all she could do was nothing.

Mourina was never afraid of people and the police is justa another person inside some uniform. The only real monster is the system. So, her eyes dived into his helmet straight to his soul and asked him:

-Why are you here?
